Default dynomax/jc whitney sidepipes

who heres got them? and does any one have photos? my wife has given me the go ahead to get some side pipes under two conditions- 1.) less than $1000 and 2) she cant accidently burn herself getting out. so ithink hooker are out. so im tryying to decide between factory style or the dynomax style. exactly how restritive are they?how loud are they? i currently have true duals an 50 series flowmasters. should i just keep what i have?

thanks for the info

bence13_33 had them on his car when it had an L-48 in it, but I got the impression that they were very restrictive. He had a couple of pictures of the car with them on, I saved them because I thought seriously about getting them and then putting fiberglass factory style covers over them. I figured I could do the whole thing for under $500.
I'm looking for other alternatives, but I haven't given up on the idea completely.
Here's a couple of pictures of bence13_33's car with the pipes on.

I think patsnitrovette has done the best non-hooker side pipes soo far....
he took a set of original side covers, which you could get from Mid-America or Ecklers. He then bought a set of spiral mufflers and mounted them up and piped them out the side pipe covers. Looks like side pipes, but costs much less.

All you would have to do is have muffler shop weld the muffers you choose to use, which I would suggest [img=http://store.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/mor-94050.jpg]click here}, and make a few bends to make it look purdy.

ask pat...im sure hed help ya

yeah what chris said all i did was get the fiberglass side exuast covers and installed 3 inch pipe under them into 3 1/2 spiral mufflers.Im using full length headers that come out into a 90 over to the 3 inch pipes,But hooker make sa kit that will let you connect full length headers to factory style side exuast for like 45.00 for the pipes mandrel bent too.Im gone to get that kit when i put my super comp. headers on.Check out my website to see how they sound. And i paid 100 for the exuast covers,80 for the mufflers, and about 25.00 for misc. pipe so far.

i had a question about those pipes to, one is they are only 2 inch exhaust pipes, is that big enough for 300-400 hp, also can you remove the mufflers in them and if so would that improve the performance?

2" is good for a ricer with 200HP...i wouldnt trust with over 300HP...even some of the stock vettes in the 70's with lower power ratings ~190-250 came iwth bigger than 2" just my opinion tho

Actually the Dynomax sidepipes are 3 inch inside diameter, but they are the same size for the full length. They also have what I understand is a very restrictive fiberglass muffler built into that 3 inch pipe.

I have Hugger headers w/90's going right into Dynomax sidepipes. They are pretty restrictive, they sound good though now to loud. Not loud enough for me. I took the mufflers off and had some 3" pipes cut and am running these straight now. Now I am a little too loud. I am looking to put a set of 12" glass packs in the center of the pipes somewhere. I got a lot of comments on the sound. I just wanted the car a bit louder.

Do you have any more information on that hooker kit? I also hear that Hedman makes a set of headers that bolt up to factory side exhaust. Do you know if either of these are restrictive? I really like the factory look as on your car, but I don't want to hurt performance ssing that I have spent a lot of $$$ on engine work.
