I talked with Kelly at Quanta explaining what I’m having a problem with and she took my number and got with their tech guy. She got back with me and said he suggested I replace the cam as well since it had been removed a couple times. She also said while the parts were minimal I probably wouldn’t like their standard method of shipping which was $21 so she said she’d try to get someone to drop it off with the post office to save me a few bucks. I suggested priority mail would work and she said she’d do that. It ended up costing me $25 and I got the parts in 2 days. There were follow up emails from them as well. Got to say I’m very impressed with them. I’ll be needing a tank and sending unit for my Charger I’ve had since a teen and you know I’ll be reaching out to them for that.
On the heater core side of things I’m having a tough time getting the correct factory repo stamped hoses so I went to NAPA for a set of Gates brand hoses. If i can’t get the repos Might as well get top quality ones. Couldn’t do that either as they were out of stock. should have them tomorrow though.

In the process now of rebuilding the heater box with new seals and rubber gaskets .
lots of surface rust on all internal metal parts that I’ve cleaned up and coated with a rust neutralizer.
I had to grind out the rivets that holds the plate to the box and the kit provides replacement rivets. They seem awkward though as they say to install and flatten the ends. I guess I’m supposed to use a punch on the end that goes thru and hold the other side against something solid, maybe my anvil or a body hammer dolly, then when holding the punch tap it gently to expand it. Sounds like I’m going to need an extra pair of hand for that.
Wondering if I could just use pop rivets instead?
Anyone else tackled this project?

When I rebuilt my heater box , on my 69 with no A/C , I used 10/32 screws and nuts instead of rivets . No one will see it and they made it easier then the rivets .

Well its all back together, it fired up quick on the first shot and idled nice like a new car would, best of all no leaks !

I’m happy with the heater box rebuild as its like new now and functions better than ever. All the hoses are routed correctly for once and the general appearance of the engine bay is better than before.
As for the fuel sender issue, I measured the old and new o-ring from Quanta with calipers. The Quanta ring “looks” thicker but its not, same thickness. I let it sit in marvel oil overnight whether that helped or not (???). When i dropped the old one down the retaining cam seemed loose ! I installed the new ring and retaining cam from Quanta and thats where I noticed a distinct difference. The old retaining cam had a slight V bend in it to engage the sender when fully installed. Its only been about 6 months since I last had it apart so I remember it would just go tight when fully installed. The cam from Quanta actually has dimples stamped into it in the 4 spots it engages the sender body and when I installed it I felt it pop or snap into position fully engaging itself taking its seat. Ther was a very positive feel about it snapping into place like theres not doubt its not going to back off.
Once the car was warmed up I noticed the air flow from the vents seemed stronger like its was being directed better too.
Nice having everything under there all nice and clean as well.
