We have this tool in the shop I work in. Many customers want SS lines, and I love how easily it works and if we have issues, it’s usually the “Opperator Error”. All that said,,, I won’t use SS on my VETTE. Just not worth it IMHO. I did however put SS lines on my old truck that sees snow and salt regularly, that was a benefit. Not for a hobby car…..
I’ve been a tech for over 30 years and living in the rust belt I’ve probably replaced hundreds of miles of brake lines. It is one of the jobs I hate most. Non coated steel line weren’t too bad but the green coated ones they came out with were almost as hard as SS. SS is nice to look at. THAT’S IT. When they came out with Nicop, I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Flares are easy to make and come out looking like factory. Seal up the first time with very little torque applied to fitting, never crack and bend so easy without kinking it’s crazy. Now, if they could somehow make nicop look like ss, that would be a game changer.
I decided to install the conical gaskets all over.
Is there a good way to test for leaks while the body is off ? I guess remove the master cylinder from the body and install on frame. press the piston in with a C-clamp.
Have you taken a look at Classic Tube in upstate New York? I have replaced the entire set of brake lines on my 1988 C4. I also replaced all the fuel lines on both my C3 and my C4. They offer the systems pre-bent and then folded in half to fit in the box. They also offer the brake lines is either Steel or Stainless Steel and their quality is nice.
The NiCop looks like a great alternative as Stainless is hard to work with in comparison. I have had the Eastwood hydraulic Flaring tool for a decade and it works great but is very expensive. I use it on the standard Steel lines and it works very well. It is too bad you are so far away. Eastwood has the entire Kits for making your own lines.
