Default Corvette throttle hesitation when cold.

My 1981 corvette has been running perfect lately until now. Whether it be cold out or hot, the car starts perfectly, and comes off of the hot idle fine. When I go to give the car some throttle while parked, the engine hesitates for a second then revs to the desired rpm. Sometimes it will even stall a few times before I can make it out of the driveway. I have checked all vacuum hoses and lines and tried using starting fluid to locate leaks as well. Also checked the carb for leaks. Car has new cap, rotor, coil, plug wires, etc. I just installed a new fuel pump and filter and that has made the car run better so I don't think lack of fuel is an issue unless I am missing something. If you have an idea on what it would be let me know!

Thanks,

Landon

You should post details of carb and maybe some pics may help others help you. I think that was one year carb?

Do not drive your car until you replace that fuel line.

I've never seen a worse kludge than that.

You can create a YouTube account easily enough to upload videos, though the comment section there will also want you to stop using water hose as fuel line.

Thanks for your input. This was installed a long time ago before the car ran bad and is not a water hose. Its a reinforced clear multiuse fuel line that was put on when I brought it in for servicing an issue before. the fuel line was twisted so badly that nothing could get through so it was cut out and this was slipped over and clamped for now. I dont think this is part of the issue but I will check it out and get a permanent repair done. I think its also rated for up to 150 psi

Here's what you need:

https://www.zip-corvette.com/77-81-f...etor-line.html

You may also need a new, ethanol resistant accelerator pump (and a carb rebuild). Buy it from Cliff, at https://cliffshighperformance.com/

For once, a carb issue seems to be a carb issue (and not timing). But don't take my word for it. Hopefully others will chime in.

Sorry for the delay in my response. I decided to remove the carb and give it a total rebuild and replaced the needle and seat, float, accelerator pump, and fuel filter. It was pretty nasty in there so I'm guessing whatever was in there causing the car not to run right was removed during the cleaning process. The car runs great now and has allot more power (The ac pump also has a greater squirt of fuel than before). Thank you all that helped point me in the right direction.

accel pump is my guess.
look down carb and move throttle to open while watching for 2 streams of fuel shooting
out into carb bores. Eng NOT running
