Default washer pump

How much do I have to take apart to rebuilt my washer pump in my 74. I dont see how the to get at the main piston out from the case. Do I need to take the wiper moter out and take the gear off the front? Thanks for any help.
One more question I have 1 yellow wire comming from under the dash (I cant see where it comes from its to far up in the dash) and goes through the fire wall but mine stops there. Its hot when the key is on. Not sure what it is for.

Chances are the little valves in the washer pump head are dried out. Try replacing that first. A pretty complete pump rebuilding kit can be had at Pep Boy's for under fifteen dollars. The kit from Pep Boy's comes white. If you opt for AC Delco replacement the pump assy will come black, but has many of the internal parts (springs, clips, etc.) that the Pep Boy's kit does not.

If your stuck on that wire, later today I can look at my 73, I am sure it has the same wire.

I found it was easier to work on it if you remove the wiper motor assy from the firewall. I rebuilt mine a couple of years ago and found it to be very easy. You just have to pay attention to the order of disassembly and assembly, of the small parts.
