After seriously considering spending $182 on a power antenna to get rid of the long mast I decided to go the cheap route. Go get a 7/16" acorn nut, round all of the 6 corners and keep filing it round with a metal file until it fits up in the antenna retainer nut and and re-install the retainer nut like it was. Didn't take long and the total cost was $1.50. Will be replacing the non-functional cassette deck with a RetroSound unit and radio reception wasn't a consideration. If that changes the power antenna is an option and this mod is completely reversible. This acorn nut was nickel plated but I'll see how long it lasts and keeping my eye out for a stainless one.
