Default Fitting dual exhaust in an ‘80

I came across a dual exhaust for a ‘78 that I want in my ‘80, how can I go about getting this to fit? Would I be able to drill holes into the current crossmember or would I need to replace the whole crossmember with an older one that can fit the dual system?

Throw away the cross member and get one from Bow Tie Overdrive. If you have good fab skills then several members have rebuilt their cross members into something useful.

I did the same to my 1980 and used G-force kit and it worked great. Bolts right in.

This is the profile of the Bowtie crossmember, I marked where the 80/81 exhaust goes with black marker, 79 and earlier exhaust should pass under

It will, I have a BTO crossmember on my '79 and the exhaust fits fit.

If you are planning to manual swap the car in the future, be sure to plan ahead and get a crossmember that fits (G-Force or Bowtie make specific ones for different applications, or an earlier one with the two holes can be adapted for a TKX). Don't buy twice!

Otherwise, here's an 80 with a dual exhaust, and no crossmember fit issues.

Another vote for G-Force crossmember. They fit perfect and mine is on an 82 that it isn't supposed to fit under.
