Almost a full year now on my Gary built iron swap with 3.73's and still working flawlessly. It's a thing of beauty....
And here's the wimpy aluminum Dana 44 that came out. At the time, there's was nothing outwardly wrong with it. I just wanted to dump the lazy 272 gear for some 3.73's. However, once opened, notice the condition of the cross shaft. And look at how thin that ring gear was they used. Sheez.
Gary’s work is always top notch. He built me a 3.73 12 bolt in 2012. Axles set at .005” to .006” end play. Two years ago , after 20k miles, I checked them. .006” on both sides.
Gary built my rear differential, trailing arms and steering box.
Beautiful craftsmanship.
Thats what you get from Gary, expert craftsmanship and there isn’t anyone who does it better.
How did you get all those large , heavy items to Gary from California and mind if I ask approx cost of shipping?
I went down to Walmart and bought the cheapest cooler I could find that would fit it all then stuffed it with foam to hold everything. I then taped it shut with duct tape and shipped it via UPS using Shippo. I believe at the time it was around 50 bucks each way but I’m in Missouri. Worked like a champ.

How did Gary ship that back? Doesn't look like a fully assembled diff would fit back in there.
It was fully assembled except I pulled the axles and wrapped them in bubble wrap. It’s the green wrap in the cooler. I also left off the diff cover. Gary shipped it back the same way and I put the axles back in myself. In true Gary form, he labeled which axle went where. Use Shippo to get the best rates. They were almost half of going directly through the usual shippers.

I bought my rear differential from Gary and he used a housing he had in stock.
Gary built a really nice wooden crate when he shipped mine to me.
He will provide you with the instructions on how to build one.
I just shipped my complete differential to Gary in the same crate.
Shipping from California to Gary was $181.00 with UPS ground and it only took four days.
You can save a ton of shipping costs by dropping packages off at a UPS depot and not one of the privately owned retail stores who are allowed to up charge at their will.
I echo what Greg said, all thought I am a little disappointed that Gary, gave Greg a T-shirt and I was given a bumper sticker. lol
Bob
Hey Bob,
When Gary built my differential he was out of my size t shirts, so I asked him to send me one for Kristine.
She wears it whenever we go to a car show.
I had to wait for my t shirt until Gary built my trailing arms.
