Default Air cleaner removal

Hey guys i have a 1979 corvette and i am looking to clean the engine bay up. I would be removing the air cleaner and adding side piper with new headers of course. So ive got that part under control. But im looking at this air cleaner and there are so many hoses and things how do i go about putting a new cleaner on. Does anyone have a video or a step by etc with pictures so i can see please i dont want to do this wrong. Thank you!

That dual inlet air cleaner is worth some money to the right person. L82 cai air filter assembly.
and the attached plastic inlets. FYI.

You don't need any of those hoses. Knock out the big pins and remove the flappers, and tape up the holes, and give your car cold air all the time. You will not find a better air cleaner than the dual-snorkel L82 (for 78 and 79), which was used in all 80 and 81 cars.

If you have a single snorkel, find a dual snorkel.

Exactly what I did. The stock setup is pulling in cold air as well as getting a bit of a ram air effect I believe, due to where it pulls air in.

No, not at all. Really, really super simple! Remove wing nut on top. The whole thing comes apart! THAT SIMPLE!
follow the vacuum lines to the other end. Remove and plug. DONE!
So simple I find it hard to believe you had to ask.
And yes, some people will pay you for the parts you remove.

Your valve cover still needs a breather for the PCV system. Right now, it pulls clean air from inside the air cleaner. You can use a cheap breather in that hole instead.

The vacuum hoses are not needed.

The vacuum line schematic should be on the drivers side flat of the firewall above the brake booster......

I realize you’ve probably made up your mind to swap out the oem air intake/cleaner setup for the shiny aftermarket dish… but having grown up in Chicago and spent many winters trying to coax carbureted v8 engines to life in the morning… you’re going to miss that TAC warm air when starting. All that atomized fuel from the carb just condenses in puddles in the intake. Flooded engine, no start and much cussing results.

Also, that cold air intake is better than sucking in hot underhood air once your engine warms up. GM could have saved lots of $$ just slapping in an open round air cleaner, but they didn’t. Might consider why they chose that design.

Just my $.02.
