Default Wiper motor wiring

Hi guys

trying to get my wipers working and have some gremlins to track down. First is I have power on the yellow wire and also the green wire at the motor connector. Also when bench testing the motor I’m getting power on the right tab if you’re looking at the motor. Any ideas? Also I’m not getting power through the wiper door wiper switch and I’ve already tested the switch and it Ohms out. Any suggestions? Car is a 69 and if it matters the wiper override switch isn’t currently installed.

If the override switch installed then there won't be power sent up to the wiper door switch

Are you following the Willcox wiper motor testing video?

Ok I suspected that and have one on order thank you. I am and I was bench testing the motor and manually giving it power and grounds. It moved and then won’t do anything else. Looking at motors I suspect mine is incorrect but I know there’s a wiring issue. My big concern is why I have power on more than one wire at the motor.

Check the green harness wire coming from the car with a test light and not a meter and see if it still shows power. The yellow should (with the switch etc in place)

Thanks for the info and diagram! I definitely will when I can. I was using a test light and that’s how I found it was hot. So it must be crossed somewhere and getting power.

Alright so I played around with it for a little bit after work and installed the wiper override switch which solved that problem of no power at the red wire. Issue is I still get about 12 volts on the blue wire so when I hook it up the wiper motor itself is energized. I’ll attach some pics. Any ideas? I believe I need a new motor but can’t figure out why the blue wire is getting 12 volts. I thought only the yellow was hot and the others were grounds.

Yes blue should be grounded to run. Since you're getting power on it when it's not plugged into the motor then there's nothing going on weird inside the motor.
That blue wire goes into the car, is connected to but doesn't use the tach solenoid and then to the wiper switch where it also goes to the relay under the console. That's basically it.
First I'd make sure the wiper switch is grounded. If the plate is installed it should ground through the center bezel, if it's hanging free you need to run a jumper to ground it
The only places it could pick up power if something is shorted is the tach solenoid or the relay.
Leave the wiper motor unplugged and you should be able to reach up and unplug the tach sol and check if you're getting power at that plug. Visually see if somethings shorted out there. The check at the wiper switch plug
