This is a strange one. At low speed around 10 to 15 mph, I hear a knocking sound behind the seats that sounds like somethings hitting the floor. Has anyone experienced this? I dont know the best way to check it out because when I jack up the car the body angle changes and everything looks fine. Any comments are welcome. The u-joints and the diff bushing are new.
First thing I'd do is get under with a flashlight and look for signs of damaged fiberglass. Check above the tail joint of the driveshaft. It's most likely there that the noise is coming from.
A friend of mine put long zip ties around the halfshafts once..It made a similar sound when the the end of the ziptie whipped against the car :cuss
Not sure how far back your noise seems to be coming from, but I had a similar problem on my '71 after a shop had done some work on it. It turned out to be the exhaust pipes knocking where they pass through the crossmember. It indeed sounded like the driveshaft was about to come through the floor! Loosening the hangers and adjusting the pipe position did the trick. I hope it is something that simple. :yesnod:
Exhaust pipes sound more likely. If u joints are hitting the floor it would get really bad when you were at high revs and would be there all of the time esp under acceleration. :smash:
The pipes run really close to the spare wheel tub so dont forget to check around there.
