I got the boot for having a convertible, not for running to fast :(. I did get in two runs before that though. My first run was a 12.5 at 113 and the second was a 12.3 and NO MPH on time slip. When I picked up my slip, they told me to talk to the sign in guy. The sign in guy said that 13.99 and faster verts have to have a roll bar. He said I could run with my hardtop on though, so I still can reach for the 11's, just a few pounds heavier.
Oh yeah, I also met a guy with a #'s matching 68 427/390 vert and he was running low 14s 14.1-14.3 all night.
One of the other highlights was winning $.25 from Swimmer for guessing the time of another Z06 that was running. He guessed 13.4 and I guessed higher for .25. I won, the guy ran a 14.1 or .2. He later got it down to a 12.9 :D
Maurice, just get a hardtop for your Vert and you'll be ok to 12.00. I always race with the hardtop..
BTW - I run with the hardtop but I remove the soft top.. The hard top isn't much heavier than the soft top. To remove the soft top is very easy. It' just 4 bolts
I had to get a hardtop also. It weighs about 65 pounds I think so it is a little more weight but I removed the spare and tub to save a little more weight.
I know you have to have at least one working headlight & taillight to run under the lights at the strip. I never thought about a turn signal though. Did they tell you to use the left blinker so you wouldn't spook the other driver that you were gonna take a right into their lane?
Nice runs!!!
As far as hardtops & rollbars. I'm going with rollbars as my windshield was spliced together when this vette was transformed into a vert. I don't think there was much strength to them in the first place.... go upside down and it'll be the first thing to go.
Does anyone have a link to NHRA's rules about street legal cars and racing?
NHRA will make you join the National Dragster to get the newest rulebook, but here are some of the general guidelines from their site. You'll notice a *C* in the roll bar section in the 12.00-13.99 ET column. *C* = Convertible. http://www.nhra.com/tech_specs/ETQuickRef.html

That would describe me!  But I dipped into the 13s and bought a hardtop at the end of last summer because I expect to go much deeper into the 13s this year! :) In fact, I just put on some "racing stripes" last night! (pictures coming). Hopefully you can find a hardtop locally (condition and color don't matter if you are only using it for drag racing) because shipping will add several $$$hundreds to the cost of a top. MJ
