My ‘68 had a slight vibration on the highway.
last summer I blew the rear but I doubt that was the cause of the prior vibration. While I had the rear out I pulled the driveshaft to change the U-joints as long as I’m in there. Doing so I saw the trans yoke was badly worn which made sense because it did have a small tailshaft leak. The leak should’ve been a clue that there was a bigger problem.
I replaced the yoke, the tailshaft bushing and seal.
with it all together the vibration is gone.
Yes it could have been the rear, the U-joints too but the most glaring culprit was the badly worn tailshaft yoke.
When I was 17 I had a 1966 chevy Impala which came from factory with 427 and muncey 4 speed. It was heavy but ran really well for the time. Long story-short, I twisted the driveshaft. At 25mph the entire car would jump up and down . At 30 you could not stay in the seat. A twisted shaft generates a LOT of energy. Just a story from years ago.
