I just rebuilt and replaced all the components in the manual steering system on my 73 chassis.
The body is removed.
Today I greased all the tie rods and ball joints, but when I tried to turn the front end to grease the idler arm I was unable to turn the assembly.
There is no steering column, no wheels and the front end is set up on jack stands.
I’m trying to turn it at the rotor.
Would it give me the needed leverage if I installed a wheel and tire?
If not, What could be causing the assembly to be in a bind?
Could the tie rod sleeves be adjusted out too far and cause the bind?
Brand new idler arms can be pretty stiff. Could just be something like that. I've turned my steering many times with the front end up in the air by grabbing a wheel. But I don't think I ever tried without a wheel on.
perhaps just try turning the input to the steering box. Or temporarily put on a wheel.
