I posted this as part of my short problem, but haven't got a response so I'm isolating it in its own threat.
Where should this ground be connected?
It's the large stranded wire with the rustyish end. the photo is looking up towards the AC box. It is about 12 in long. The other end you can't see isn't connected to anything, and the eyelet is too small for any of the bolts that it can reach. Assume it connects to the engine block somewhere...
Hard to tell by your picture Scott, but if that eyelet will take a 3/8" bolt, I believe it is the ground wire included in your starter cicuit. It should attach to one of the lower bell housing bolts. Many make the mistake of connecting this eyelet to the stater solenoid stud, and then blow the fusible link.
Cheers, Greg
And if you mean that really large "battery" cable then it would go from the engine to the frame to provide the main ground for the block. In my case (BB) the front starter brace bolt to a bolt inside the motor mount.
Thanks for the replies. The main battery one is in the back under the battery tray connected to or near the differential / snubber bushing bracket. The one I'm referring to is in the front near the starter. It is attached to the frame under the air conditioning box. I'm trying to figure out where the other end goes. The eyelet is smaller than 3/8 of an inch
To the best of my knowledge there shouldn't be any wire grounded to the frame there.
The only large ground wire up front is the one I showed and the AIM from a 72
The bolt for the front starter brace is 5/16

DHer67, your profile says your car is a '72. The pics Mooser posted are correct for '72 (not sure about other years). The only large cables are the single positive and one negative from the battery and one ground at the engine. The negative at the battery is pretty much connected to the frame immediately below the battery box. The engine ground is connected between the forward starter support bolt and the underside of the passenger engine mount frame horn. Your unknown cable is not in a factory installation location. Check to see if the engine to frame cable is there.

On the lower right side, it looks like the ground wire you mentioned has the 3/8" eyelet and it is not connected.
Pic from your other thread, is this the unseen end of the cable in question. Or just the pos cable?
Looks like it's making contact with a terminal on the starter. Might have fused when shorted out.
