Re: Are Coated Headers worth the difference? (page62)
QUOTE]Actually, Dynomax claims their headers are Jet-Hot(TM) coated. Hmmm...[/QUOTE] Jeez, Louise, he's right! Summit catalog says ", or with Jet Hotceramic thermal barrier coating." Standard painted at $95.95, and Jet Hot coating for $227.95. How can you beat that?
Re: Are Coated Headers worth the difference? (Glensgages)
I can beat that! :yesnod:
My Summit catalog says "Get 30 Summit Bucks when you buy Dynomax headers." Only problem is the catalog was from December, so I don't know if this is still valid or not...
Re: Are Coated Headers worth the difference? (Glensgages)
jet hot does give a 15% discount to forum members...for $465 including shipping they coated my hooker sidepipes (headers and pipes), this included sandblasting the several layers of black paint that was on them and coating them inside and out with the sterling coat....they look awesome!! :chevy

And I'll be driving right PAST the Summit headquarters tomorrow when I look at a 'donor' Cross-Fire motor.......

As an alternative to Jethot, try Airborn coatings which in my case was cheaper than Jethot (even with CF discount) and offers a 3 year warranty on coating used headers vs Jethot's one year. If you are buying new, the best way is buy them directly from Jethot (Airborn doesn't sell new coated headers but will coat new ones you ship them with a lifetime warranty).
Hudman - Also, they have a factory in Charlotte so I was able to drive my used ones out there and back; saved another $50 in shipping both ways!
Re: Are Coated Headers worth the difference? (Marks69BB)
I bought a new rear-engine dragster 9 years ago. The headers, front A-arms, rear housing, rear wing struts, etc., were sent to Jet Hot before I recieved it. Altho the car has been sold, and re-sold, they are STILL in perfect shape, after all this time! The Jet Hot just WILL NOT come off!!!
Re: Are Coated Headers worth the difference? (Glensgages)
Thanks to everyone for all the responses. I did not think that an old topic like this would get so many replies. I think I am pretty much decided that I will be buying Dynomax Jet Hot headers....
Re: Are Coated Headers worth the difference? (Les)
300 degree drop and 268 degree drop with coatings?
I bought one of those IR temperature guns - noncontact temperature probe
and measured the temperature of my 81 stock exhaust manifolds. The
temp was around 350 degrees (give or take 30).
So what is that saying about the temperature of the coated headers?
I would be very surprised that an uncoated header is 300 degrees hotter
than a stock manifold!
Re: Are Coated Headers worth the difference? (Les)
Jet-Hot sent the same pkg to me after an inquiry. I was very impressed and soon ordered my Heddman headers direct from them. Be sure to mention you are a Corvette Forum member as they offer a $40-50 discount to forum members.
Re: Are Coated Headers worth the difference? (TedH)
I don't believe that having ceramic coated headers will give you much, if any, performance increase over plain painted ones. I do see the worth for increasing the life of the headers.
Re: Are Coated Headers worth the difference? (TedH)
I can also vouch for jet-Hot.... i just got my hooker headers and sidepipes with their coating. they have something called jet-hot direct. you buy the headers from them and they coat them and send them to you...saves money one buying from summit. then sending to them and then coating and sending back. and as others said there is 15% discount on the coating
