I've been contemplating this for a while so let me know what your thoughts are on it. The Corvette has pretty much been it's own platform forever and I thought that was a good thing since it never had to be compromised to work with something else. Now we have a cadillac :U on the same platform (If you work on cars you probably feel the same way about cady's as I do). Since there are now 2 Y body cars, are we supposed to wave to them now as well or maybe something else. I'm already starting to get hassled by my Ford friends. Every time they see a C5 they say look at that a caddy, or see a caddy and say look at that vette, it didn't help having all those commercials during the superbowl.
Wave to anyone that you want to, why be snobbish about the car that people drive. I thought that the wave was supposed to be a greeting not a secrtet handshake type of thing. :seeya

Well in a way I think the corvette wave is sort of a secret handshake thing, it's a good way to tell the enthusiasts from the owners a lot of the time unless the enthusiast isn't paying attention or in the middle of a shift. I wave to almost every street rod, old muscle car, or the like that I run across, but I find it mandatory to wave to other vettes.
Putting flame resistant suit on. Building an enclosure around myself made of firebricks. Covering the building with asbestos. Adding a moat around the building...
Ok...
It's probably because the C5 has been out since 97. Or just that I'm a Caddy guy as well as a Vette guy. But...
I'd rather have the new Caddy than a C5.
There I said it. Now I can sleep again. Or get the mental help I need.
Thanks you.
I agree with the wave thing among Corvette owners, but I'm saying that drivers of other makes of cars that you appreciate should not be excluded from a wave just because they are not driving Corvettes.
When I am driving my Suburban and I wave to a Corvette driver, I rarely get
a return wave. This seems like a sign of snobbery and really turns me off to Corvette owners, especially when I get return waves often while driving the Vette.
I think that we should return a wave to anyone who waves regardless of what they are driving.
im trying to keep the wave alive, ive only got one wave from a c5 oner. I get them all the time if i see a C1-c3. I only wave when i see a nice vette i have slipped up a few times and ive seen some 60-70 mustangs like the m1 fully restored i gotta give a thumbs up to then pass em  j/k. I was on the way homw today and i say a blue viper with a white racing strip, i waved and he actually waved back.
It'll still be a fairly rare car, so waving is probably okay. Older Corvette guys would probably buy it too. It'd probably have a softer suspension so it doesn't rattle those old bones, and they like that :D My dad' hates the way his '84 rides. I may not wave, probably let them wave first, but I doubt I'll ever see one.
I'll wave if they wave, but im not going to otherwise, which is how it is for C5s anyway. i think i have recieved one wave from a c5 and we just came from the same vette shop. he was an older guy too, so it probably wasnt his 1st vette, or he was informed.
i get a better wave % from C4s but nothing like C3s C2s and C1s
about not getting waves in the daily... when im driving the vette i dont notice most other drivers on the roads. if someone were to wave at me in thier common suv, pickup, or sedan, i wouldnt notice unless they stuck thier arm out of the window, and its a little chilly this time of year in CO for that. :seeya
I wave at cool, enthuiast cars no matter what it is. A new Caddy (for the most part) isn't an enthuiast car. I wouldn't expect most owners to wave back. I wave a C5's all the time. Here in Texas most of them wave back. Many wave at the same time.

Re: Do we wave? (73 LS-4)
Come on folks... the Corvette wave is something special. :seeya
It is O.K. for you to wave to friends and family that you pass on the street.
But those of you who are driving down the street and are gonna start waving to other "cars" are gonna start looking pretty silly. :lolg:
I bet those other cars would start calling you snobs because you are waving and calling attention to yourselves. Do you think they will wave back.
I pretty much stopped waving at C5s. Maybe 20 years from now, I'll get a wave back from a C5 driver but the C9 drivers will probably be snobbish then! :boxing
I wave at most classic cars and usually get a wave back. I'll give a wave or nod to anyone checking the vette out at a stoplight, or wherever. :seeya
I admit it.....It's great to drive a car that others like and appreciate almost as much as I do! :seeya :steering:
I wave at all Corvettes.....If they don't wave back I don't give a Sheet....If they do....then I made a friend.....when they see me later they always say.."hey you're that guy in the yellow corvette who waved at me the other day".... that seems to get the conversation going....Here in Hawaii most of the forum members know the drill....so they wave.....The new C-5 types are just that.....NEW....so they have time to learn and will probably wave in the future......To all my friends out there......I'm Waving my azzz off :seeya :seeya :seeya Cappy
I think this discussion has gotten a little off topic, the question was "do we wave to the new Y body caddy's since they are not truly vettes but their chassis are?"

No, but if they wave back, yes. Simple as that. Wave at all Corvettes, even if you don't think they will wave back. They might, or they may just start getting a lot of other Corvette owners waving at them and wonder what is going on, so they find out or just wave back. But the Caddy isn't a Vette. If the Caddy owner waves, they most likely are a Corvette person and just wanted something more luxurious, so wave back.
