Hello. I'm new to the forum and Corvettes, but not new to cars. I bought a 1972 coupe, which will be a father and son project on the refresh.
My question: When I pulled the battery, I have a hole where the rear battery bracket should be. I believe I'm missing the metal piece that was molded into the battery box which the bracket mounts to. So...is this piece available and would I be able to re-attach it, or am I better off to get some fiberglass matting, fill the hole and use a universal battery hold-down?
My car had a hole about 1/3 the size of yours in the bottom of the battery compartment. I found some fiberglass mat at HD along with the resin and hardener. I placed some of the mat over the hole and brushed on some of the resin/hardener (don’t mix up very much of the resin /hardener). I recalling applying three layers of the fiberglass matting/resin. I never install the hold down bracket. , because my was Mia. There really isn’t much room for the battery to move around, unless maybe you go to a track. I didn’t paint the repair because the battery covers the repair.
You are too new here to send you a PM but I have everything you need, the part that goes in the floor. The hold down and the bolt all leftover from my project. All you need is the fiberglass. Let me know if interested.
