Going with street rod Sanderson CC-1 headers will definitely not be a performance boost to the engine that is going in, but since I am sticking with the factory sidepipes it seemed like a good solution to tossing the cast iron manifolds in the garbage. A ton of clearance.... better flow pattern.... and routing spark plug wires will be no problem at all on the dart straight plug heads. Definitely nice work they do.
This is definitely not the way for anyone to go who is looking for a bolt up and run solution. Sanderson headers are designed for special applications to fit the worst scenario clearance applications and I will be at a muffler shop to re-route the extensions from the sidepipes up to these new headers. Most have probably heard of *block-hugger* headers and that's exactly what these are as the collectors are directed inwards towards the block/oil pan. I had Hooker sidepipes on a previous '69 and loved them, but these headers have much more detail put into the fit & grind of the face to the heads.
tshort....
Anything new on your engine? I know you are looking forward to it coming in. It's funny, but the $2500 I spent on the long block is nothing compared to what it takes to really finish a completely new set-up. Thinking you have some components that will go with your new engine... the stock '74 engine was pretty worthless for me to work with, so everything is coming in new. Running behind schedule as you can see.
I have the same pair. Got them because of the side pipe fitment, similar geometry to stock and their matching D-port ports (ZZ4s have the D shaped exhaust ports).
Beautiful headers they make but I had to make a wrench to put one of the spark plugs in tight. No wrench or socket in my arsenal would work (Hun, I need more tools :yesnod: )
I am still in the refurb process, havent heated em up yet but soon will!
Good decision. I have a pair on my 77. They make an angled reducer that will allow you to direct your pipes straight down instead of toward the block if that would be of any help in hooking up your side pipes. Good luck, Bob
