Hello Corvette friends - need some input - just finished a 2 year "freshening" of my '70. Wouldn't you know as soon as I got the interior reinstalled I am getting a coolant leak BOTH in the interior (dripping onto passenger side floor) as well as on the engine side. I would guess it's the heater core causing the interior leak but don't know why it would be leaking also on the engine side. Any thoughts or links to repair info/videos? Thanks my friends!!
Interior would definitely be the heater core. As for the engine bay it’s hard to say without more information or pictures.
Where in the engine bay is it leaking? Could be as simple as a loose hose clamp. Between the radiator, engine block, water pump, intake and heater hoses there’s about a million places it could be leaking from.
The leak on the engine side seems to be close to where the heater core sits in the "box." I need to get a better idea once I can get it in the shop and let it run. Thanks for the reply!
Shows how a heater core works
Its probably the seal around the heater box. the hot water comes from the water pump then through the heater core then back to the engine.
If the heater core is leaking, the water will go into the box and leak into the passenger compartment and if the heater box seal is gone, it will
also leak into the engine compartment.
The seal on the engine side keeps engine fumes from entering the passenger compartment. I'd check that first.
There are plenty of youtube videos on replacing the heatere core and box
Good Luck !
