What would you do ?
I am putting together my 427ci SBC. One of the head locator pins on the deck got sheered off. Not sure how but probably in the machine shop. My question is, can I put the head on with the remaining pin and ARP studs? I know what I should do but I f**ked up the dowel in hole trying to drill it it out.
Any comments, especially from some who has has used only one or no dowel pins is appreciated.
If you get it lined up OK...no issues. I'd snug up the intake and use it to help align it before torquing.

Yep.....put the head on and see how much play there is up and down......it is not going to move much.....do what Jim says but I would put the intake gasket in too to simulate as run.....the aluminum heads have the spot face flat on them so it might help locate it too if the spot face is tight to the ARP washer......no problem......you could one ARP bolt in it too as it has the chamfer under the bolt flange that nestles up to the washer....self locating.....tighten one stud and swap it out with a stud right after.....

Thanks guys for an answer to my question. Really makes my day. Saves me so much headache and time, If the head gasket blows out, so be it. I am using Cometic mls head gasket and wit try and line it up the best I can. I still have one dowel pin to work with.
