Default 1981 Corvette Coolant Temperature Sensor Ground Wire

Hello everyone, I recently just had a shop do some work on my Corvette. I had some service issues but they corrected them...well most of them. I noticed that my temperature gauge in the cluster is completely inoperable; hand is on the left side at all times whether the car be on or off. However; I hear my DeWitts radiator fans kick on every so often so I know that the secondary temp switch for the radiator is working. I followed the main temp sensor from the top of the block down; I noticed that the black ground that goes to the firewall side of the block by the starter has a second black wire coming off of it that was freshly cut; my guess by that shop that had the new tech working on my car when they dropped and installed my transmission. The main tech isn't sure where that wire went and I don't see any diagrams online for how this was hooked up. If I had to guess why my gauge isn't working; this is where I would start myself. I see the black ground wire coming from the temp sensor down to the block ring terminal is fine, but I can't tell if the wire that was freshly cut has anything to do with the gauge not working, I think it does. Could anyone tell me how that "second" wire would be hooked up or if someone has a picture/diagram of the ground wire? Thank you for all the info. PS; also don't know if its related but at the same time my floor light on the driver side won't turn on either but the others work fine.

The sender for the temp gauge in the center cluster is in the left head. Between numbers 1 and 3 cylinders just under the exhaust manifold. Look for a green wire, most likely with a heat protective cover over it behind the alternator.
Have no idea what your cut ground wire is. Does your blower motor still work?

Yes the blower still works, albeit not great. I assumed the sender was the actual temperature sensor. I found it to be completely unplugged disconnected, connected it back up and its working again. Simple solution! Thanks for the reply I really appreciate the tip!
