I did measure the battery voltage before starting the engine and then after. It measured 12.6V before starting and 13.5 volts after starting. This tells me the battery and alternator should be good.
Thanks
Welcome back again...
How does the engine cut out....is it sudden without any hope of continuing to run, or is it a gradual loss of power and eventually just stops running?
A sudden stoppage should steer you towards electrical whereas a gradual stop could be fuel related.
it seems that it would be electrical as it shuts off then restarts. How quickly does it restart. If it starts up rather quickly it wouldnt be fuel clog as they take a bit to clear, I had those issues as well. Most likely it’s a cap, coil, points or rotor issue. If it’s HEI then you have a bad HEI coil....
Depending on how it’s dying this is what I would hone in on. A fuel issue generally speaking the car will cough and sputter before it dies. With a wiring issue it will just cut out and then come back until it doesn’t.
Hello,
I think I found the problem. The wire stake-on connectors attached to the alternator were pretty loose, one was hardly making contact. I squeezed them with pliers to tighten the physical connection.
I took it for a short drive yesterday and did not encounter the engine stopping problem. I will take it for a longer drive in a few days and will call it fixed if the problem does not return.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

Good to see you may have it licked. With that said even with that wire loose the car shouldn’t die. The only time I can think that would cause a car to die would be if it was shorting to ground or something crazy like that. With that said I’d recheck my running voltage and see if that changed it any.
