It was in my one of my boxes of parts for reassembly (74 BB) - in what I think could have been an incorrectly labeled bag in with my alternator/brackets and bolts. At first I thought it was some sort of spacer but is solid and almost 1" long which is longer then the cylinder head dowel pins I am seeing online. Also, when these parts were all bagged and labeled the motor had not been touched for disassembly other than the pan being dropped for a new oil pump, screen, pick-up tube and rear main seal. So, still trying to figure out what it could be. Thanks for your help!
The scale of that part leads me to think it might not have anything to do with a Corvette. Most of the Dowels I have run across are smaller in diameter and shorter in length just as suggested by Rescue Rogers a couple lines above.
.
The darker colored ends might be the only part that sticks out or it is pressed into something. Being solid should point you in the right direction as most pieces like that which I am familiar with a tube through the center making it a "Spacer". The dowel pins used on a diesel I had back in college were big similar to what you have.
I am afraid to say that in all my years of Corvette tinkering I have not seen anything like that part, I wish you luck!
It doesn't go anywhere on the alt setup and it is too small in diameter for the bellhousing. Still thinking a cylinder head or cam but the cam is smaller diameter than a cylinder head. I can't remember if the one is block is a 3/4" or 1" though. They are not too short but it has been along time since I have had one out.
Well, so far...I'm thinking you are correct! There is a wealth of knowledge and information on this site. I AM VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE SUPPORT AND EDUCATION I receive on this site! None of us have come up with this being a part for our 74 BB 454...I will share with everyone if we ever hit the jackpot on the answer
Thanks all for taking the time and interest in helping me. You ROCK!!!
