Default 82 Crossfire Intake porting

Looking for someone to take on the porting work needed to make the stock 82 intake flow properly for an HP increase plan. Can’t get a Renegade so this is the only alternative. Of course I’ll need throttle body and ECM work to boot. I’m sticking with the crossfire all the way to 300+hp an that’s all I need.

thoughts?

Porting the stock manifold is a good idea if done correctly. As far as TBs go, if your motor will be stock except for porting and maybe exhaust, you do not need to go bigger TBs. If you want to go with the EBL ECM, your motor will run as good as it's going to run with the tune that comes installed. The beauty with the EBL is that you "can" change the tune if you like especially if you add more mods to include NOS if you like. The EBL can handle and control it. GL and hope this helps a bit.

I am semi retired form motorsports…and have plenty of port matching , flow analyses etc.. experience…in fact I have ported quite a few heads and owned a Superflow bench at one time. Just thought someone was already doing this work and I’d avail myself of their services.
if no one is available I’ll have to buy one and start looking at this myself. Picture is one of my last projects..TF bike restoration…12 yrs.

Find a renegade somewhere . Porting that crossfire intake is a fools errand. You will spend hours and achieve nothing. Have you actually seen the ports on that intake? That thing has to run out of air before it gets near 4000 rpm. If you Ike that system leave it alone.

Well that sounds like cold hard truth…right there. Thanks.

Not sure exactly what you mean by..."Porting that crossfire intake is a fools errand". Porting that stock intake IS a good idea if you do not have something else. The ports ARE VERY restrictive, but opening them up to full size frees up a lot of flow, just not as much as the Renegade can. Finding a good Renegade IS very difficult these days. I was offered a brand new, serial numbered manifold and turned it down. It was a good one, but didn't need it and the price was high all considered what the owner had paid for it from another owner that never installed the manifold. I did offer a fair price for it though and was turned down. I know the that the Renegade 2.0 will more than likely have to be a high price as well, but that's only because everybody wants to increase their prices sky high like the foundry and the machinist. That leaves me hanging or I just quit the project all together. I'm trying to get the manifold off the ground again, but it is slow going. After I do the test pours, I have do do another 3D scan of a raw casting for the machine shop so they can do a comparison on what needs to be done. All this stuff takes time unfortunately and a lot of cash out of my pocket. GL . At @RC Legacy That's a cool bike and you are braver than me and have HUGE ***** to ride that rocket down the track.

One more thing to keep in mind if anyone decides to port a stock intake. DO NOT get carried away with the grinder on the lower side of the port/floor. The entire bottom of the intake is a water jack and if you get too aggressive with the grinding, you will bust through and then have a huge mess on your hands. We did away with that water jacket on the Renegade and did the front and back crossover like a modern intake. There are people on this forum that said they epoxy things like busting through to fix it. DO NOT do that and if you do, you are risking the entire engine hydro locking if it leaks for any reason and destroying the motor. I would NEVER do an epoxy fix on ANY manifold, period. Just my opinion on that.

Thanks for this input..I have cut cylinder head intakes off of air cooled motors straightening them and shaping them with epoxy floors to obtain the “D” shape needed for max flow on NHRA Prostock MC engines. …I am not completely convinced the stack intake is trash that cannot be improved…even if minimal. I under stand it needs a port match at the heads and the runners should be opened and equalized .

@RC Legacy - I didn't recognize your username until you posted the Sorcerer pic. I worked at a Honda dealership in the mid-'70s. Mad respect for your dad's ingenuity. Good luck with your '82!
