Problem – Starter engages when shifting from neutral into drive at average pace. It engages right before the shifter goes into drive for only approximately 3/10th of a second. It doesn’t matter whether the engine is running or not, but the ignition is always in the “on” position.
Trouble shooting – I’ve loosened the neutral safety switch and moved it around and it still does it.
Recent repairs – Installed a new neutral safety switch since I thought it would solve a “Seat Belt Light” won’t turn off issue, but it didn’t. Seems it maybe a seat belt pad problem instead.
Conclusion – I’m thinking it could be a defective new neutral safety switch?
Definitely SOME kind of bad interaction between the shifter/linkage and starter wiring. Put the old neutral safety switch back in and see if it still happens. No? Take the new switch back and get one from a different maker/supply source.
Still happen? Your starter solenoid is getting juice from something that shouldn't be feeding it.
I was working on the seat belt light issue as I didn't want it to wear down the battery and I believe I may have solved that problem. At the same time, my starter issue doesn't seem to be doing it now. I'll keep you posted.
