Another T molding question
I'm putting my 76 T-top back together. I've read the older posts about the T moulding install using strip caulk. What was the purpose of the foam strips at the front an rear of the mouldng? It's the thin foam attached with self stick tape. Mine still has the remnants with the gray caulk like sealer at the corners. Wondering why it was used and not the gray putty/caulk which seems like it would offer a better seal/water block.

Mine had from factory, black strip caulk everywhere under the T bar cover. And I replaced it with 3M Strip caulk which is black.
No foam of any kind on my car. I am absolutely positive that I was the first and only person ever to remove the stainless T shaped section.
