I've seen LT1 setups from Z28s with OD trannys for around $2000 used.
Not a bad upgrade at all. The crossfire can be OK - but never reach the
potential of a newer TPI.
I voted retro, only because I think it would be easier to work on. As far as fuel economy go TPI. As far as performance, both retro and TPI have their high and low points...IMO.
I'd go carb, MUCH cheaper and easier to work ( no sensors to worry about). I thought about going FI but then I couldn't run side pipes so that ended that.
Do you have a yearly inspection for emissions? If so, I'd go TPI.
that's a great question. right now, Florida is inspection free. Who knows when that can change (as soon as a demo gets in the gov mansion, probably)
and there is the slight chance of me relocating to california
I voted retro... the more I look at cars with FI that also look so complicated with hoses and wires running everywhere - the more I like the pre smog pump cars!
Since I'm on the subject - Why do some modern cars bury the engine under plastic covers (vette included)?
I do agree with folks above that smog rules could really ruin your day if make the retro choice.
