Can anyone recommend a good differential shop in the Toronto area?

I could use one as well for a 1980 Dana 44, located in Michigan.

107000 miles on it. leaking oil from the pinion seal. 100 thou. end play on both side yokes. Side yokes are worn right down to C clips inside
. Gears look ok.

It looks like it's going to be a challenge to get the axles out as the end inside is worn down to the c clip and flared out
on both sides.

Because the axles are softer than the spider, a slide hammer will do the trick without issue.

It just keeps getting more challenging. The bolt/pin that holds the center pin in is broken. The threaded part came out but the pin stayed in. Geez

What “center pin” are you referring to?

I'm referring to the pin the the spider gears turn on inside the diff. The bolt that secures it in place is broken. Just the threaded part came out leaving the pin if you know what I mean.

Its the bolt that secures the pin inside the diff that hold the spider gears. The bolt is broken leaving the end of it still holding the center pin in diff in place

Ok got that sorted out. Does the crown gear have to come off to remove the spider gear and clutch pack. Doesn't see to be enough room

You need to turn the posi unit to allow the spider gears to move off their perches to be removed through the opening. Be sure to keep outward pressure on both side gears while you turn them or the gears will lock up. It is indeed a very tight envelope to work in.

I have done as you suggest and removed the small spiders but I cannot get the bigger spiders with the clutch pack on to come out. The gear binds on the crown and carrier when you try to remove it.

Those ride on roller bearings and should slide easily inward as there should be nothing in the way. There is a pair of “keepers” on each side that hold the stationary clutch plates and the ends are visible through a pair of quarter sized holes in the casting. You can try a little “persuasion” by tapping on those keepers to see if you can get the assembly to move.
