Default 72 Manual Brake question.

Ok, I've searched and looked through many threads concerning C3 manual brakes and nothing seems to have fixed my issues. I've replaced rotors, flex lines (with SS), calipers and pads. System has been bleed and pedal is firm.
One of my issues is the brakes don't seem to have much stopping power. Maybe I'm wrong but I would think you should be able to hit the pedal hard and lock up the brakes, this isn't happening. I was wondering if the proportioning valve could be the issue.
Second issue is the parking brake. I have the adjusters all the way in and it is still rubbing on the rotors. I also have adjusted the parking brake cable. One thread mention that the front and rear rotors can get mixed up and they're not the same specs and can cause this. I made sure that I placed the rotors with the extra holes to adjust the parking brake on the rear.

Any insight on correcting these issue would be much appreciated.

TIA
Kevin

  1. The disc pads need to be bedded to the disc. If they are not or they pads are contaminated they will not stop the car.
  2. Organic pads generally suck anyway, go with ceramic pads, they will really stop the car
  3. If you didn't order the master cylinder. It could be for a drum brake car or it might be for a power brake car. It depends on if the parts house actually knows what they are doing. All of those things can happen because I have seen everyone of them. I have seen C3 master cylinder listed for a drum/drum and a drum/disc setup. You really have to pay attention
  4. On the parking brake, it is supposed to drag. Read the instructions for setting it in the AIM

Look in the 1972 Chassis Service Manual. First step in adjusting parking brake is remove all tension in the cables. Then you work with the adjusters and finally you adjust the cables.

Additionally, you may have to deglaze both the rotors and pads. Scuff the rotors with 120 grit sand paper and thoroughly clean them with brake cleaner. On the pads, I would use a course scotch pad. Sand paper could embed into the pads and cause problems. If the parking brakes are new, sometimes the inside of the rotor must be cut to match them. See posts by GTR1999 regarding fitment. Jerry
