Default 🕰️ changed to ATF temp ;❔wiring to console

My clock was replaced with this gauge. (Clock of course is no where to be found).

I do not see any wiring run that would go to this.

What wire would be ran/where would the other end be??

Has anyone done this as an upgrade on their 68?

That's pretty cool. Perhaps a PO custom printed the face for that gauge?

81-82 cars had an optional "oil temp" gauge in place of the clock, if the car came equipped with a digital radio (with a clock). The kit is still available, including the sending unit. Perhaps that is what is behind that gauge face? Can you get a photo of the backside?

77-82 cars had a printed circuit board between the center gauge cluster, but the wiring could be done however it needs to be.

Show us the back of the gauge. Hopefully it has the standard 90 ohm (is that right? off the top of my noggin?) that the water temp gauge uses..... if SO, then you can get an adjustable resistor from one of our vendors (I got mine from Willcox but sadly no longer around) and you can dial it in.
My adjustable resistor looked similar to this and works like a dream.....

You need to find where the Temp Sensor/Sender was installed? Look on the tranny pan and on the cooling lines going TO and FROM the tranny cooler and/or radiator.
IF it is a standard Corvette temp gauge relabeled for tranny temp then you can try using the temp sender for 75-76 and the adjustable resistor that would work with that sender/gauge combination....it is the closest one I see to the same scale on your gauge.
Looks like 72-78 temp senders were the same so here is that: https://www.zip-corvette.com/72-78-t...t-correct.html

Below is an image of a 75-76 gauge... you can compare other years but that one looked closest to me:
https://www.zip-corvette.com/75-76-t...ure-gauge.html

Below you can see where I installed and dialed in my temp gauge after decades of it being "off"....

Ok, under the car this is what I have.

I assume this red wire will go to the gauge?

Best picture I could get from under the car.

Back of gauge cluster.

Hey Candy-

This will do it.
16GA wire will be fine. Use a GXL or SXL cross linked poly wire- SXL has a thicker insulator than the GXL
It's rated for 256º- for engine compartments-oil/gas resistant .

Dumb all that down for me Mr. electrical guru 👨‍🏫

That red wire goes into that brass fitting and then runs where to enter through via firewall to the gauge?

Never done electrical so… 🫢

Might have considered putting my clock back in but since I don’t have it, will go this route.

I don't have an automatic handy right now, but couldn't you run the wire along the modulator vacuum line, into the engine compartment, and then tuck it into one of the many rubber firewall plugs for the various vacuum hoses? It's not a stock wire, so you'll have to be creative. But the aftermarket cruise control in my 79 did something similar to that.

Some wire loam might help hide it, or make it look almost stock.

Will try that. Thanks.
