All kinds of things are possible. but the question is "why?".
If you do NOT have a/c or a smog pump it would probably be easier.
Several gm sbc cars mounted the alternator on the passenger side. What is it that you mean by "mid mount"?

I've seen guys move the alternator to the other side to make it easier to gain access to the power steering resivor. But seriously, it's easier to swing the alternator out further with a slightly longer belt. And same on the power steering pump. Slightly longer belt.
Done.
Much easier than running wiring around the engine bay.
But anything can be done!

From: I tend to be leery of any guy who doesn't own a chainsaw or a handgun.
As 4-vettes said, anything is possible. Just depends on how much effort you want to put into the proposition. I moved the alternator on mine to the right side to take weight off the heavy left side.
