Default A question on Flowmasters

I will be be putting Flowmasters on my 81 and have a couple questions. I am putting a high flow cat on but keeping the 2-1-2 exhaust system. With that configuration will the 40 series be loud or will it act to quiet it down? Also how well do the Flowmasters tuck up in the muffler cavity? The stock ones hide quite well. Thanks.

A high flow cat plus Flowmasters will definatly be louder than stock. How well the mufflers hide up depends on what length muffler and how they are hung. The two chamber mufflers are shorter in length and louder than the three chamber ones.

I have a high flow cat and Flowmaster 40's on my 81'. It gave it that loud, muscle car sound I always wanted but it is definatly louder then stock and it does resonate in the cabin quite a bit. Personally, I love it but I wouldn't want them on it if my car was still a daily driver. The shop that did the instal for me told me he takes more flowmasters off Vettes then he puts on... lol

I was kind of surprised at how nice the entire system looked. I had the guy custom build two new Y Pipes for the front and back and install the Cat and mufflers and he did a fantastic job tucking the mufflers up where you really can't see them. I don't know that I have ever seena 81' with the Stock mufflers but I can imagine that it looks pretty close to stock.

Here is a picture of my three chamber (old school) flowmaster mufflers:

Here is a video of the car under way, maybe give you an idea of noise.

If you really want FMs, install Koolmat to dramatically reduce the resonance. I had 50 series and took 'em off. Too loud for daily driving - couldn't enjoy the stereo.
