clean it real good with simple green and get all of it off afterward and use S100 engine brightener. It was suggested to me from 4-Vettes. He uses it on his Harleys and it lasts. I sprayed my motor a couple of months ago and it still looks great through all the pollen cluds we have had this spring
Just be very careful WHERE you spray the Simple Green.... It cost me a new $$ alternator after one cleaning and I was careful when I washed the engine. Now I do it with a rag and my hands with something not as strong as Simple Green. Simple green took the writing off the decals and is a bit stronger than what I want to spray on my Corvette. I used it on a Honda Lawnmower and my kerosene heater and both times it removed the print from the decals and changed the color of some of the plastic.
Dawn Dish washing detergent removes oil and grease with little effort and it won't damage the parts. I used to wash my entire Cessna 172 with 409 spray cleaner and a couple towels. I am hesitant to use something strong when cleaning the exterior of my airplane so why would I use it on a Corvette?
I tend to start conservatively and work my way to the stronger chemicals when cleaning parts. There are so many types of plastics and many can be damaged if the wrong cleaner is used. For the Chrome I pull the parts and polish them before a coat of wax is applied. For the Aluminum intake manifold and Radiator I have used COIL CLEANER which is a mild acid cleaner used on Aluminum to clean it of corrosion. Coil cleaner should not be left on any painted surfaces but it works great keeping the radiator fins nice and clean. Coil Cleaner will really help dirty condensers and dirty radiator fins get 100% back to the bare aluminum surface so it transfers heat better, do not use it on Brass radiators!
Wow and thank you. That’s ironic and today was phase 1 of my engine clean. Used mild purple stuff and rag, will only spray if the coast is clear from critical components. Phase 2 will chemical guys orange degreaser and #3 chemical guys bare hands or s100 that someone suggested. Thanks so much for response.
You can also put a plastic bag over the alternator and the distributor. And after you wash it all down, start it up and let it run until most of the water evaporates. And we need before and after pics!
I have Chemical Guys cutting and buffing kit. Works great. I've not used their cleaning solutions but if they work as good as their cutting/buffing kit it should work great.

This is my motor without any cleaning after 3 months from the initial cleaning and spraying. Just the typical fingerprint removal on the air cleaner with a rag
