Default steer column change auto to manual

I have a 71 tilt and telescopic column i harvested from my parts car. The parts car is an automatic. My car is a manual.
I cant find any previous write ups on how to change this over
I know i can cut off the shift arm but prefer to do this correctly.
I have done this on older fords, but this is my first experience with chevy.
Or i trade with someone who needs auto and has a manual they dont need.
Thanks

I'm not aware of any C3 steering columns that have shift arms. Is your parts car a truck?

This is as good a resource as any, for a problem I don't understand.

The columns are exactly the same for auto or manual.

Are you talking about the interlock cable for the key?

Right dumb question, I should have thought it through a bit. I know there are no column shift corvettes. I guess i was referring to this in my picture-

The parts car came without a transmission and engine so i dont know where this goes. The cable was just hanging. I have not looked at my car its going into yet.

As already mentioned the column has a lever for locking the steering wheel when placed in reverse for a manual or park for an automatic, using a cable.

My uncles 76 is a manual and nothing is connected to that arm... I didnt even realize there was a cable that went to the manual trans shifter to lock it when in reverse.

Hopefully the arm is wired in the up position. If it drops while driving the steering wheel could lock.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the locking aspect of the steering column is achieved by rotating the key backwards. The reverse lever merely enables the key to be rotated back. Lever not up= key not able to be rotated back.

Either way the lever should be wired to not move. Would have to look in manual to confirm function.
