Default EGR TVS switch install help

So while replacing old emission hoses i broke off one of the connectors to the purple EGR TVS switch

I figure I need to replace so I’ve found right one on Top Flight but before installing, do I need to pull power from battery? I think I just need to crank off (it’s super tight) and put in new switch. Do I need thread sealant? Is there coolant to worry about…not much info online I could find.

Yes there is coolant there. That's how it works. Couldn't hurt to drain it down a bit before removing the old one. And reburp the cooling system afterwards. Yes some permatex high temp thread sealant would be advised.
or loose all that emissions stuff.
Here's a 77 without it.

And it starts, runs and goes down the road better than stock.

4-Vettes, When you removed your EGR valve, did you adjust your carb to reflect the change?
I still have the EGR system with a stock Rochester.

That's a long, long time ago. I can tell you this much. All of that stuff fell off at one time. Exhaust system with catalytic converter and all. All in one go. Every vacuum switch, etc. It was a VERY big bump!
And yes recalibration of the Carburetor was necessary. Never was happy. Then installed a different intake manifold and a Holley. Then I was happy. Well for a number of years anyway. Currently you see a different intake manifold still, and fuel injection.

Back in the day, everyone and his brother were removing EGR's and just putting a block off plate on.
back then, if that was all you were doing, no one seemed to have any real issues.
That much I do remember from my youth.

I just replaced mine last month. I have all the original smog components on my 1978 and 100% stock. Waited a full day and replaced when engine was cooled off. Just threaded old valve off and reinstalled new valve with white Teflon tape. When engine is cooled off you should not have to worry about antifreeze spilling out and I did not need to make any adjustments on my stock Rochester carburetor. One of the simpler replacements for me.
