It seems that my front clip was replaced sometime in my cars life. They left the inside fiberglass its natural gray color, which was consistent, but not good looking in my opinion. When painting the engine bay for best results I would recommend a low gloss or satin black. Matte shows any stains or imperfections too easily, and high gloss just doesn’t look right.
This is before I painted it obviously, but like any paint job most of the work is in the prep. Having everything removed or out of the way helps significantly. Having the engine and transmission out makes it easier yet, which makes me slightly jealous of how you’ll be able to do it.
For the firewall and wiper tray area I would recommend scraping away as much of the factory seam sealer that was gunked on without any care about how it looked, smoothing out any rough edges, and giving the whole thing a nice coat of bedliner or any other highly durable paint. I like the bedliner because it can cover up any mild imperfections, and can be touched up if you need to.
