Do you think a 18x8" rim with a 4.5 " backspace will work on front of a 80 vette?
It could fit... but it will be a close fit.. Stock backspacing is 4 inch.. In the worst case scenario - you would have to use 1/2 inch spacers and longer studs...
Under "Wheels" in this site ,i had seen that someone with 17x9.5 centerline wheels could not use a 3/8 spacer because the studs were to short
and the backspace on thair rims are 5.0" so i'm thinking that i will run into the same mess if i use a .5 spacer? they said that they just used the rim without the spacer and it worked? could this be true
I just ran out to the shop and had a look at a front wheel with 4 inch backspacing and it was about 3/4 of an inch away from the outer tie rod. It will be close and if you need a spacer it will only be 1/4 inch. Stock wheel studs should handle this on the front. If you really want to go trick take the hubs off and press in longer 3 inch and use open end lug nuts so the thread comes all the way through.
