My 70 does not have the original engine. However since there is no manual choke in the cockpit,it must have always been electric. I do not see any disconnected or broken wires. Can anyone take a picture/diagram of where I might find the wire? I’d prefer not to have run a new one.
Ahhh, No. It did not have to be electric.
It did not come with a electric choke. However, if the replacement carburetor you have now has a electric choke, you will indeed need to run a wire to it.
Yes a hot air choke or divorced choke. The factory didn't go with electric chokes until just before the end of the carburetor. And even then. They are just not the best setup.

I have had the factory hot air setup, an electric choke on a Holley. And EFI on my C3.
The factory choke actually worked really well. But the carburetor in general gave me a lot of trouble. So on went a Holley. The carburetor actually worked really well. But the electric choke was problematic.
You see a electric choke sets itself when cold much like the factory choke. But doesn't pull off on engine heat. But rather as a electric coil warms up. The rate at which the electric coil warms up is fairly steady regardless of outside temperature. This is the problem. In warm weather, the choke stays on way to long. And that is annoying. In cold weather, it may not stay on long enough. And is annoying! There just doesn't seem to be a perfect setting.
Now, EFI doesn't really use a choke but rather works on fuel enrichment. And is controlled by intake air temp, precise engine temp and barometric pressure.
Basically, it just works perfectly. Or so close to perfect that we don't notice.
No experience, but Everyday Performance LLC over on V8Buick has an electric choke kit for early Quadrajets that I have read good things about.
Seems like some of the Buick guys really like it.
Worth a look anyway.

Ive had electric conversions on both holly and quadrajet. Best if you run are running an aluminum intake and dont have a choice. easier to tune as well. as for power most take it off the wiper. If you want to get into thte weeds about it , it has to be on the ignition circuit so it is only on when the engine is running. If it were on the acc circuit it would be on when you are just listening to the radio with the motor off. No one knows about that position on the key anymore so it doesnt matter
