Could be.. but unless I read it wrong, OP stated it didnt matter if it was hot or cold sometimes he would start to have the issue only to turn the car off and fire it back up multiple times and then and drive 5 blocks with no issue.. I had symptoms like that when I had trash or a little water in the bottom of my tank also. I agree it very well could be ignition related and thats as good a place if any to start.

again check the coil and condensor first as well as your wires for burns or loose connections but When I had the water in my tank it took multiple attempts to get it to stop randomly rearing its ugly head on a short drive and depending on how full the tank was it would sometimes be fine other times it would run like garbage. With the external fuel filter I think it just made it worse to get everything cleared without draining everything.

This could even be an issue with your distributor advancing and returning to proper advance reliably.

Not intending to be argumentative: NGK (Japan) makes their own coils and NAPA Echlin are made in Poland.

This is good info.
There was a thread on coils here years back and it was disclosed that the oil filled type were no longer made in the US and of course it was assumed they were all chinese since the 2 most popular aftermarket brands were.
And to be clear I was only commenting on the oil filled canister type. Its good to know there are still options as I have a couple other older vehicles that still run them.

Thanks for the good information. Won't have time to dig into this for at least two weeks. If it is the coil, can it be rebuilt? The reason I ask is everyone says the new ones are junk and the old NOS or working old coils bring lots of money.
Thanks,

I wonder if the Chinese people have to settle with the cheap Chinese junk we have to deal with, or do they get to purchase good made in the USA products.
It would be nice to see the American consumers demand either better quality products from China or only purchase items made in the USA.
