I agree with above. someone swapped a new one onto my car before I bought it and other than a slight bog I never did get sorted out it worked well until I swapped with a holley. The 1406 likes lower fuel pressure. I did have issues with flooding past the floats until I installed a regulator and set it to 4psi
Edelbrock recommends the 1405 for the RPM and Air Gap applications and you could add the electric choke to the 1405 , the 1406 would probably be fine but the 1405 is calibrated for performance applications where the 1406 is a economy version and it's more than just a jet and metering rod change, it's the air bleed sizes and idle feed restrictors in the boosters are different and they do like less than 6 pounds of fuel pressure like mentioned , I ran 5 psi with the 1406, my stock mechanical pump was 9 psi , the 1406 was 1 mph slower in the 1/4 mile between the 1406 and the factory Qjet
Installing a choke on a 1405 is easy and bolts right on. The AVS 2 is a good suggestion but on the 2's you can't add electric choke later and as far as I know there is no difference between a AVS2 manual and electric choke version fuel metering wise so if you want a electric choke order it that way otherwise a 1405 with E choke conversion done is performance calibrated carburetor compared to the 1406
The AVS and AVSII, both have adjustable secondary butterfly which makes tuning easier. If you're not at altitude they are all pretty easy to tune, altitude is just rods and or jets which isn’t too hard.
It took me about and hour to have my dual edelbrocks tuned including jets and rods.
