When you get back, Paul, maybe you can 'share' what make the brown car rare? I don't see anything extraordinary about it. I can't believe some fool painted it brown but there's no accounting for taste.
When my '99 was flooded-out, I actually got Allstate to pay-out much more, because my car was "rare." From production numbers, I estimated the number of 1999 Corvette Convertibles with black interior in Sebring Silver with 6-speed, Z51 suspension, HUD, Active Handling and no weight adding luxury options....
...total number "two, possibly three produced...and since one of them has been destroyed, I will need enough money to persuade one of the owners to part with their car."
But still, rare is a stretch for a list of options, unless you're talking ZL1, L88 etc.
OK,Guys, here is what makes that car ultra rare & only "Old Forumers" here will get it once I mention it.............................Look at the VIN very, very closely...............REMEMBER """5 instead of S""" Can you say "k-e-r-r-y"???? Yes, people after all these years the """5 instead of S" car has finally surfaced, probably the rarest shark of all time.(FONG, Richard Head, Dick Bahlz, etc). :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg:
ok guys...time to show my ignorance...dont be too hard on me...
i thought the "one chrome bumper" cars were kinda rare???
somebody straighten me out here please...
They are kinda rare in the world of Corvettes, only 30,464 produced. But in the world of the '73 Corvette, all of those 30,464 Vettes were, as you put it, "one chrome bumper", or 100%.

Well, all 73's had one chrome bumper on the back (actually two but you know what I mean), so if 30k cars are rare, then it's rare. 30 thousand isn't normally considered rare in my book. It's probably just rare that someone went from Mettalic Yellow to brown, I wouldn't think to many people would do that
I e-mailed the seller and asked what makes his car rare? He replied " That since it was a 73 and that it was in the condition it is "nice" makes it rare to him" That's all folks!
At least he could have come-up with something like "Well, compared to a 1973 Vega hatchback coupe, of which 266,124 cars were produced, 1 of 30.465 Corvettes, only 24,372 of which were coupes, is rare!"
Ok, I have too much time and too many classic car books! :)
I second that emotion! Just this weekend, my father-in-law and I were talking about the Corvettes I've been lucky enough to own, and exactly the same optioned '73 Big Block Coupe went by just like I had owned (same color too, like Vfastboy's)
Corvettes aren't rare, with the exception of 53s and a few of the low production option cars. Now a Jaguar XKSS or a Pierce Arrow 12 Silver Arrow...that's rare.
In terms of determining "rare" my opinion is that if there were more than 1000 made, it ain't "rare," unless circumstances have caused a majority to be destroyed. A rare car is one that requires you to either wait for one to come up on the market, or pay a premium to get a current owner to sell. If there are many on the market at a given time, then it cannot be really rare.
Of course there are certain "rare" cars that have been exceptions, mostly because they were low production, but constantly "available for sale," such as Duesenberg Js. (Most of these are "investments" more than cars to drive)
