Default Water pump block offs

So, my water pump came plugged where you’d put fittings for the heater core and intake hoses.

Do I need to route the hoses or can I just block off the intake holes like the water pump?

It’s currently just a bypass but I’d rather it look cleaner if that’s an option.

OP has a 1973 454

There’s a lot of information on the bypass online, but the general consensus is that as long as you’re not driving your car in cold weather and your thermostat has a built in bypass you can simply remove the hose and block the ports.

I found some mixed info that seemed unrelated to 454's... mostly on LS engines. Some of what i had found is that it may be necessary to prevent cavitation in the pump and steam pockets in the t stat housing... didn't see anyone with a C3 not routing a bypass like i currently am but figured if i asked someone would say they have been without issue...guess not. Thanks!

No problem, quick question. Is that paint or powder coating on your intake manifold? I like the finish it has.

Powdercoat - i had it powdercoated wrinkle red to match a ferrari valve cover i had seen to go with the wrinkle black valve covers i have on there. I don't have any good pics right now but i could get some later if you want to see it better.

To that specific point, the L48 (Gen 1 350 SBC) in my 80 is perfectly happy with the heater ports plugged, no bypass, but with a tiny hole in the thermostat.

I suspect the hole in the thermostat is more critical for a big block, but I've never run one. I did put bypass holes in my LS engines, and plugged the heater ports.

I’ve seen some just create a little loop of hose, from the supply and back to the return. Not purty or fancy, but may prevent the mentioned cavitation.
