Has anyone ever seen slots in the underside of a 69 small block hood before? Is this something that was done in St. Lewis?🤔 this is a 69 L-46 no A/C. Thanks for any info here. DT
Not in my hood. Mine did have fiber insulation across the front and I think some sort of post at either side to hold the material in place. It pretty much was just over the radiator.
Sorry to say ,PJO , but my 69 hood doesn`t have any wear marks in it from the radiator core support rubber . Car is a driver and has 96,000+ miles on it .

Was a previous owner perhaps contemplating some sort of hood customization, adding the LT-1/BB hood orraments? I ask because the slots seem to be approximately the same size and shape as the trim, and near the same location. Maybe after he made some exploratory cuts through the inner skin he thought better of it and abandonded the idea?

After looking at hundreds of original Corvettes and judging many of them not all Corvettes had these wear spots but most original ones did.

There aren't multiple skins for the hoods – the underside is the same panel as the topside.
I think PJO is right that what we're seeing as red "slots" above the radiator are rub marks. Any slots here would show the sidewalk in front of the car -- unless the hood has some sort of odd scoop or something bonded to the topside. Factory scoops (427/454/LT-1) don't have the centerline V-profile and the trim isn't that far forward.

Ah, you're correct, of course. Thanks.
I was thinking of the inner reinforcing frame that the hood skin is bonded to; and in my confusion, the inner frame grew to become an entire inner panel.

As my wife says, I can make up stories all day...
I was actually thinking the exact same thing. Thanks for your input. This story is maybe not so far fetched.😆
