I’m swapping a T56/LS1 from an 04’ GTO into my ‘81 Corvette. I was under the impression I could keep my Z-bar and go with a manual clutch, but I realized the T56 on the ‘04 GTO has a slave cylinder instead of a clutch fork, which means it’s hydraulic.
With that in mind, what goes into a hydraulic clutch conversion? Additionally, I’m pretty sure the answer is “No”, but is it at all possible to swap in a clutch fork instead? If so, is it simpler or cheaper?
Ignatz put an LS1 into a 69.
I am sure he has a mechanical clutch and had to fab up an engine mount stud for the clutch crossover shaft onto the LS1 block.
I don't believe they have them.
A SBC or BBC has a ball stud that mounts onto the block above the oil filter.
Not on my C3 but on my 73 Z28 LS3 swap I used mechanical clutch linkage with a TKO 600. I got the basic "arm" length from a local guy with SBC linkage. Then used 3/8" rod ends and 1/2 tubing. Made the frame bracket and the cross shaft. Don't know if you can use mechanical linkage with a T56.
Next project was my 68 C10. LS6 with a T56. I used a Wilwood 3/4" master and a 2002 Camaro slave. Tick speed bleeder. Just need to be sure you don't have too much pedal travel. Again worked great.
Used LS7 flywheel/clutch/pressure plate on both swaps.
Tried to post pics but no dice. Goes to 90% and stalls.

Yeah I’m starting to lean towards the hydro system, was just hoping I could save the cash for something else. But welding and fabrication are not in my skill sets, so it sounds like hydro is going to be easier.
The Wilwood master cylinder you used - that was clutch master cylinder or the brake? Or are they integrated?
Side note - How does the mechanical clutch on the Z28 compare to the hydraulic clutch on the C3? Interestingly enough, this is the only manual car I’ve drive (aside from motorcycles), so I’ve never actually used a hydraulic clutch.
It was a clutch master cylinder. Pics loaded this time. On the 68 I ran a nicopp hard line to a bracket and then a -3 or - 4 SS flex line to the trans slave cylinder.
With either system they had an easy pedal push?. I think it was because of the LS7 clutch. But still very good engagement and holding power.

Damn that’s clean! You know, I really should think about running those lines before I put the body on. It’s gonna be much easier now than if I were to try to squeeze my hand into the trans tunnel.
