During the drive to the Winter Gathering in Daytona I had a lose of fuel problem. I was driving at 70mph and the car starting noseing over I had installed a inline electric pump with the stock mechanical one. I turned it on and the car picked back up. I thought the mech pump had a weak spring .I installed a new pump this did not solve the problem. Ihad a clogged filter in the carb. the primary filter was fine. I wanted to check the primary filter so i changed tonight and found that it had come apart . This is the seconed one to do this in 3yr The filter is a A/C for the 69 427 with the return line . The problem is when it comes apart the fuel pressure pushs the inside cannister up and restricts the flow above mid-range rpm but allows enough at speeds below 60mph I don't know if anyone else has been through this but it will wear you out trying to fix it.
Just because the filter says it is A/C Delco, doesn't mean that it is an A/C Delco filter. There has been a problem with bogus filters made in 3rd world nations ending up on store shelves as genuine A/C Delco. Some of them have even been found on the shelves of A/C Delco distributors. If you go to http://www.acdelco.com I think they have a way of reporting suspected counterfiet parts.
The real problem is that I think A/C Delco has discontinued making the filter you are describing. The ones sold my Zip and many other Corvette places are probably not much better than no-name duplicates. There are a few places that still have a stock of genuine A/C Delco filters you are describing.
Try posting over on the "Correct Restoration" Forum, those guys can probably tell you where to find a real A/C Delco Filter.
The flip side is, just because the filter is a piece of garbage made in a 3rd world country doesnt mean it is not a genuine AC Delco filter!!! They have a lot of stuff made offshore (radiator cap made in India). I have one of those filters (GF 432?) with the word "inlet" scribed on the outlet side. I was sure I had a "counterfeit" filter and contacted AC Delco. It was not a counterfeit- just one of their own defectives. MJ
