Default 82 CFI Knock Sensor

Based on the research I have done, it appears that there are essentially no more 1982 knock sensors beyond paying a significant amount. However, while under my 82 earlier, I happened to notice that the knock sensor has not been connected. I am assuming that it hasn't been connected since well before I purchased it. I'll update the post here in a bit with a photo of the one that I currently have installed. Until then, from what I can tell, it appears to be a later knock sensor such as one that would be on an 84.

To that end, I am currently using an 84 ECM. So with that said, would I be okay connecting the 84 style knock sensor? I take it that if I were to go back to using an 82 ECM that I would then need the 82 knock sensor? Not looking forward to breaking the bank just to get one but definitely would want to make sure I'm not going to end up ruining the engine long term. I guess $500 is a lot cheaper than several thousand!

As I’m digging deeper and deeper it’s seeming more and more like I would need to convert to an 84 ESC in order to properly use an 84 knock sensor.

as I dig deeper down this path, I’m wondering more and more which route is the best route to take. The way I see it is I have two/three different options.

1. Cut the existing connector and wire it for the 84 connector/pig tail.
2. Custom make a connector using PCB and a correct 84 connector.
3. Same as option 1 but cut enough of the old connector off so I can use weather pack (or similar) connectors to make it so that I can swap connectors as needed.

I’m not entirely a fan of cutting the adapters but as parts become less and less available, it seems like a better move to modify the existing set up to allow using newer parts.

if there is some other option that I haven’t thought of I would love to hear it!
