In most cases, You will be doing well to get your money back. And that is if You turn right around and sell the car without sinking any money into it while You own it. Today, everybody knows what cars are worth. Nobody is going to sell you a mint $40,000 69 Z/28 for $5,000. You will pay current market value (or darn close to it). The profit is made selling parts for these cars.
