While fixing a vacuum leak in my 69 headlights, I noticed the headlight warning switch was disconnected like this on both headlights. This is a new car to me and I am finding all of the little things previous owners did to it. Any theories why these might be disconnected?
One of the switches broke on my 73. The switches are not that expensive, and I am one of those guys that like everything on the car to work. Why you would know your headlight didn’t pop up at night would be obvious, maybe Chevrolet had the indicator light for when you need lights when it’s raining? Wait, the state where I live did not pass the “headlights on” in the rain law, until 25 years after my 73 was made!
That was not disconnected. It’s a broken wire from wear and age. A new switch will not work. You need to repair the female end cap. In fact, you will need to replace it. I had one break on one of my cars and spliced a used cap that had both wires still connected. I do not think they make a repair kit for it.

Yes, the switch looks fine. Just take the plug off and see if you can get the pin out and then you can repair the wire by trying to use the old pin or find a pin that will work. Easy fix.
