Default Remove and Install 1971 Fuel Sock

Hello, does anyone have any tips for removing and installing the fuel sock for 1971? Is it difficult. Thank you.

Pretty sure the 71 is like my 68 with the BIG hole on top and the outlet to the pump suction on the bottom............

If so, and you do not want to drain the tank, then you can remove the fuel cap "nozzle" that holds the cap (remove like 8 or 10 bolts) and expose the even BIGGER hole and then just reach in there from the top and remove and replace the sock. It would be optimum if tank was near empty.

If you have really skinny arms you may be able to reach in there through the regular fill hole......just don't get your elbow stuck..... you could vaseline your arm if you're concerned.

Our mutual friend carriljc is telling you the best and easiest way to change the sock. I tried and my arm was too big but my son was able to put his arm in the tank. The big hole under the gas cap would be ideal but my tank had some sharp edges on it so you have to be very careful.

IF you are replacing the sock take a moment and consider a piece of Holley's Hydramat in place of the sock. The Hydramat is amazing as it pulls gasoline but not air from the corners of the fuel tank. I am anxious to put a piece of Hydramat in my C4 which is a bit sloppy below 1/4 tank and sucks air occasionally when driven hard. Unfortunately the Hydramat is a bit expensive for many folks but it does an amazing job!

thank you, so if I can get my hand on sock how to I remove and install? Does it screw in and out, push and pull, or snap in place. It will be challenging to get my hand on it and work blindly. Any suggestion are appreciated.
